What I do,
Ever since I was young I
have wanted to do three things: become a Serie A soccer player,
a firefighter or a journalist. Seeing as how Mother Nature
didn't give me a magical foot, or cured my vertigo, I focused
all of my efforts on writing. Today, my business card says
that I am a professional, freelance journalist; as if to say
that I've almost made it! I was born in Rome and lived there
until I was 25-years-old, then I traveled around studying,
working, etc.: Bologna, Urbino, Canada and many other pleasant
places. I graduated with a degree in Political Science and
Modern History. As an up-and-coming journalist I have won
the prizes "Erich Fromm" 2001 and the "Mario Formenton" scholarship
2002, that opened the doors to some important collaborations,
like Diario della settimana and, an accomplice chair-bed (but
don't get the wrong idea!) Donna di Repubblica (the Saturday
supplement of La Repubblica).
What I write,
What will I do?
Because my philosophy is that life is what happens while we are busy making other plans, I always try to knock on every door and then see which opens first. As of now I can tell you that I have finished my second book, the collection of short stories "Couples", and I'm working on my second novel "Smoke Rings" (that is also the name of my blog) and I have just moved to Toronto, Canada. Here they have awarded me with a Doctorate in Philosophy in Italian Literature, with a scholarship and Teaching Assistance in Intermediate Italian Grammar. It's not much use to say that I tried to obtain a doctorate in Italy about a dozen times, but I had a change of heart when I learned that recommendations matter more than the titles or the published books. Anyways, I'm following my dream in Canada: to write and teach, those are the two things that I do best.
